Suzanne Yates (UK)

Suzanne Yates returns to the college for her pregnancy series in 2012:

Shiatsu for Pregnancy 1-4 September (for shiatsu therapists)

Massage for Pregnancy 5-8 September 2012 (for massage therapists)

Shiatsu for Midwives 13-14 September 2012 (for midwives, doulas and birth educators

These courses provide deeper insight into maternity care with particular attention given to the eight extraordinary vessels of East-Asian Medicine and their relevance in pregnancy.   Course content also includes self-help exercises for mothers including birth positions, an emphasis on awareness of energetic links between mother and baby as well as the use of meditation and visualization as a tool for processing personal birth and pregnancy experiences.

And for practitioners that have previously studied with Suzanne, special course in Post-Natal care and High-Risk Pregnancy:

High Risk Pregnancy 10th September 2012

Postnatal 11-12 September 2012

These two courses are only open to practitioners who have already completed a prior workshop with Suzanne. This course aims to develop in-depth knowledge of shiatsu techniques and exercises for the postnatal period for mother and baby, and examines underpinning theory (anatomy and physiology and TCM), particularly in relation to body work. This course will also assist students to develop an holistic model of the postpartum period, providing practical tools for self development and provides support for shiatsu therapists in this field.

Suzanne Yates BA(Hons), Dip HSEC, MRSS (T), APNT, PGCE began studying massage in 1982 and shiatsu in 1984, completing the three year professional training with Sonia Moriceau in 1988 and assisting her between 1989 and 1993.  In 1990, Suzanne went to Boston, USA to train as an instructor in ante/post-natal exercise with Elizabeth Noble and established “Well Mother” (visit www.wellmother.org for more information). Suzanne runs various courses for midwives and shiatsu and massage practitioners in the UK and world-wide.  Her first book “Shiatsu for Midwives” was published in July 2003 by Elsevier Science and her second book “Beautiful Birth” was released in March 2010. Suzanne is a registered teacher and practitioner with the Shiatsu Society and holds the APNT qualification in therapeutic massage.

PAST COURSES:

Certificate in Manaka Acupuncture Protocols

Presented by Paul Movsessian

in co-operation with the Australian Shiatsu College

commenced 16th & 17th July 2011

This program is designed for graduates from accredited acupuncture programs, fourth year acupuncture students and practitioners with recognized prior training in Oriental Medicine

Why Do This Course?

Since the 1950's, traditional acupuncture has slowly been integrated into a Zang Fu model of syndromes and herbal diagnosis. The acupuncture itself has generally been allocated to point function and symptom management with herbs given to the patient for the constitutional imbalance. In Japan the classical model was allowed to grow as were innovations based in the Plus-Minus Schools of Polarity Medicine. The Nan Jing codifies acupuncture and its theory as well as describing the ancient and traditional differences between acupuncture and herbal thinking. This course is designed to fill in many missing aspects to an acupuncturist’s training as well as enhance what they already know. Each weekend is filled with volumes of inspiration that reawakens the initial reason we came to study Chinese Medicine. Above all, the course is highly practical with hands-on supervision. Theory is wonderful but if it is not clinically relevant or able to be demonstrated immediately, it serves no purpose other than being speculation. What we need is a return to the Classics.

What You Will Learn

This course will provide you with the theory and skills to apply Dr. Manaka's Five Step Treatment Protocol. You will also be introduced to many unique Japanese style acupuncture techniques as well as Dr. Manaka's Polarity Devices. The sum total of your training will be that you will acquire a vastly enhanced repertoire of treatment tools, strategies and skills that will be immediately applicable and effective in your clinical practice. You will also broaden your palpatory skills to begin applying treatment in accordance with meridian therapy. We will focus on hara (abdominal) palpation and Six Position Comparative Pulse taking methods giving us an immediate feedback tool. This feedback assists us with point location and confirmation of correct and beneficial treatment. The supervised clinical training will be at the core of the course, as it will require the students to develop many new skills and enhance previous training. The course structure will allow for continual verification of the theory in practice and the application of classical theories into clinically relevant protocols.

John Kirkwood 5 Element Lecture Series 2010

Essential Five Element Acupressure: A cycle of workshops

with John Kirkwood 2010

EARTH  METAL  WATER  WOOD  FIRE

Dates: 13-14 March, 15-16 May, 3-4 July, 18-19 September, 4-5 December

These five workshops will profoundly support your ongoing development, both personally and professionally, from a Five Element perspective. Each workshop will focus on the Element of the season in which it is held.

On a personal level, you will be fully immersed in an experiential learning environment with a wide range of exercises and discussions, and will learn how to contact, recognise, examine and experience each of the Five Elements within yourself. On a professional level, you will learn fundamental principles of Five Element Acupressure which can then be incorporated and integrated into your bodywork practice. Most important, you will learn how to identify a client’s Constitutional Element through colour, sound, odor and emotion.

In addition to the Constitutional Element, each workshop will address one or more primary principles of treatment, including point categories and working with emotions. Each workshop will also include a review of the meridians of the respective Element including focus on locations and uses of significant acu-points in treatment. Although it’s recommended to do all five workshops, and to facilitate this, a 50% discount is given for the fifth one attended, these workshops also stand alone and may be taken singly or in any combination.

Cost : $380.00 per workshop (Special** 50% discount for 5th workshop

if all workshops attended)
