UPCOMING:

Suzanne Yates (UK) September 2012

Pregnancy workshops

www.wellmother.org

Suzanne Yates returns to the college for her pregnancy series in 2012:

Shiatsu for Pregnancy 1-4 September

(for shiatsu therapists)

Massage for Pregnancy 5-8 September 2012

(for massage therapists)

Shiatsu for Midwives 13-14 September 2012

(for midwives, doulas and birth educators

These courses provide deeper insight into maternity care with particular attention given to the eight extraordinary vessels of East-Asian Medicine and their relevance in pregnancy.   Course content also includes self-help exercises for mothers including birth positions, an emphasis on awareness of energetic links between mother and baby as well as the use of meditation and visualization as a tool for processing personal birth and pregnancy experiences.

And for practitioners that have previously studied with Suzanne, special course in Post-Natal care and High-Risk Pregnancy:

High Risk Pregnancy 10th September 2012

Postnatal 11-12 September 2012

These two courses are only open to practitioners who have already completed a prior workshop with Suzanne. This course aims to develop in-depth knowledge of shiatsu techniques and exercises for the postnatal period for mother and baby, and examines underpinning theory (anatomy and physiology and TCM), particularly in relation to body work. This course will also assist students to develop an holistic model of the postpartum period, providing practical tools for self development and provides support for shiatsu therapists in this field.

Suzanne Yates BA(Hons), Dip HSEC, MRSS (T), APNT, PGCE began studying massage in 1982 and shiatsu in 1984, completing the three year professional training with Sonia Moriceau in 1988 and assisting her between 1989 and 1993.  In 1990, Suzanne went to Boston, USA to train as an instructor in ante/post-natal exercise with Elizabeth Noble and established “Well Mother” (visit www.wellmother.org for more information). Suzanne runs various courses for midwives and shiatsu and massage practitioners in the UK and world-wide.  Her first book “Shiatsu for Midwives” was published in July 2003 by Elsevier Science and her second book “Beautiful Birth” was released in March 2010. The Australian Shiatsu College:

The Australian Shiatsu College was founded in Melbourne in 1985 and has claimed a unique place in the world of complementary healing practices by integrating the Japanese-developed harmonising therapy, Shiatsu, with the Chinese medical theory from which it originated.

The college's main academic focus is a minimum two-year Diploma of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies which is accredited with the State Training Board of Victoria as well as being Nationally Recognised Training, and is Austudy approved. The Diploma has Industry Accreditation with the Shiatsu Therapy Association of Australia (S.T.A.A.)

The Diploma has been carefully refined to offer students holistic, comprehensive and flexible training in the foundations of Chinese Medicine and a variety of Shiatsu modalities, including Zen, Classical, Barefoot and 8 Extras. The course also contains modules of dietary therapeutics, client-therapist dynamics, western anatomy and physiology, Sotai, Moxa/Cupping and Tui Na (Chinese Massage Therapy).

After 22 years in the Collingwood and Fitzroy areas, the College has relocated to a spacious refurbished hundred year old cotton mill at Evans St Brunswick. The larger space will provide students the opportunity to attend workshops and classes that enhance and compliment the Diploma while maintaining the open spaces the college is renowned for.

The Australian Shiatsu College remains committed to the promotion of Shiatsu and Oriental healing arts and the education of other health professionals and the wider community.
